What is an Area Code market family?
It is a community-readable way to treat overlapping Area Codes as one market instead of pretending each code represents a completely separate place.
Why families matter
- One place can have several Area Codes. Fast-growing communities often receive overlay codes.
- NDS looks at the governed ZIP network shared by those codes. Codes with strong, mutual ZIP overlap are connected into the same family.
- Rankings are recomputed at the family level. That prevents the same community from appearing several times simply because it has multiple phone codes.
- The place name is written for people. We use a familiar city or regional label while keeping every underlying Area Code visible.
Instead of ranking 210 and 726 as if they were two unrelated markets, NDS recognizes the shared San Antonio phone market and evaluates the family once.

Search by a familiar place name, Area Code, state or region. “Coverage” means the share of the ranking’s designed component weight that was supported by governed source fields for that result.
Questions not yet ranked
NDS does not publish a ranking simply because a question sounds useful. These two remain visible so the community can see what is still waiting on governed source coverage.
